STD Self Testing Singapore

Are you aware that you can have STD self testing done? Some people feel more comfortable with STD self testing because you are in control of the process. Our clinic provides you with all that you would need, and you take it from there. If you are a do-it-yourself person, this is the option for you — and we are happy to empower people who want to do the right thing and get tested if they believe that they have been exposed to an STD.

Of course, you may also be interested in STD self-testing for the convenience of it. Once you know what test you need, you can avoid the queue at the clinic altogether.

If you are a private person, STD self testing is the obvious choice since you can skip the consultation with a doctor. Not everyone is comfortable discussing their sexual activity with a doctor. With STD self testing, you do not have to.

We have put together a list of frequently asked questions to help you.

Why is STD Testing important?

It is strongly recommended that you get regular STD testing if you are sexually active. This also applies if you use protection. Routine STD testing has the added benefit of revealing any potential sexually transmitted diseases that have yet to generate any kind of signs or symptoms. You should be aware that the risk of contracting an STD or STI (sexually transmitted infection) increases exponentially if you or your partner have multiple partners. Additionally, your risk factor goes up if your sexual partner has an STD or either of you engage in risky sexual activities.

As such, frequent STD testing guarantees that you stay healthy while leading a sexually active and fulfilling life. It ensures that you receive swift medical care if you need it.

We offer the following tests:

  • Gonorrhoea
  • Chlamydia
  • Ureaplasma
  • Mycoplasma Hominis
  • Candida
  • Non-specific urethritis organisms
  • Urine Bacteria

What are the STD self-test options that can be performed?

STD self test kits usually involve a simple finger prick test, urine sample and swab test, depending on what you want to be tested for. You have the freedom to do the test yourself and results will be delivered to you in private.

Who should get tested for STD in Singapore?

If you fall into any of the following categories, you should consider being tested.

  • If you are exhibiting symptoms but we do recommend that you make an appointment with our doctor.
  • Suspected exposure but no symptoms
  • You are starting a new sexual relationship.
  • You have previously been treated for an STD and need to have a test to make sure that you are fully cured.
  • You and your partner have planned to not use barrier protection (condoms).
  • Your partner may have been unfaithful or has another or multiple partners.
  • You have more than 1 sexual partner
  • You have symptoms that may indicate that you have a sexually transmitted infection.

Couples in long-term monogamous relationships who have been tested at the start of the relationship may not require regular STI testing. Unfortunately, most people in long-term relationships were not tested prior and so, it is probable that one or both partners may be infected with an undiagnosed sexually transmitted disease.

As such, just to be on the safe side, you should get tested.
